Just becuase west is all materialistic, expecting things to be the same all over the world is not what US could have or should have expected.
There are a few reasons why I say this all of which are related to Benazir Assasination.
1. If a Afghan says that he hasent killled Benazir because he will never kill a lady, i would believe him. To an afghan pride comes first and killing a women will be the most humiliating thing to do.
Those who think Talibs are terrorits - well they were an extreme moment against corruption under blind faith to a single person. 9/11 was done by arabs and pakis not afghans. This misunderstanding of west is coming down heavily on all of us.
2. US's attempts to push for general election in post Benazir Pakistan. Dont they ever work on a plan B?
They had this golden opportunity to project Benazir a martyr and rally entire nation to anti extremism and establish a Turkey like secular state. Instead the are betting on Zardari and his son.
The father of the duo is an epitome of corruption who can do anything for a little more money. To him even power is a way to get more money.
Ideal would have been to use Saudi contacts - open communication with Nawaz Sharif and make him larger than life by supporting PPP and make him take wahabi factions head on
