Here I would like to talk just about Islamic terrorists - for in modern terminology it seems they are the only ones of the breed.
lets try to answer how long has the discontent among Indian Muslims brewing? was it 1947 partition riots, were it the regular riots of Kanpur/Aligarh of 1980's - was it Babri Musjid in 1992 or was it Gujarat riots?
The matter of fact is that partition of India changed the way nationalist ever looked at nation. Two nation theory was counter seeded. So much so that it was creation of Pakistan that still inspires Sangh parivar to look for a Hindu Rashtra. Problem is except for fundamentalists (both Hindus and Muslims) the world has moved on.
In moder metropolitans of India - name, caste, religion etc are no longer the identification benchmarks. They have been replaced by Designation, capability, potential appearance etc. I belong to one such metro fraternity wherein we work hard to churn wheels of economy.
To us if someone wants to kill indiscreminately, because he finds an enemy in each of us, is unimaginable.
But imagine someone who believes that way of Allah is the most revered one and that Quran has the solution to entire mankind.
You are talking about a brain who thinks 14th century Rules (they are not guidelines ) can guide you through things that even our older generation never heard of. When such a mind is exposed to the reality of world he can either choose to completly give up his teaching (or turn rules into guidelines) or believe that entire world is conspiring agaisnt Allah.
To such minds they are fighting to save Allah against everybody - including those who betrayed their faith. Their problem is pure & simple myopia - who would like to get killed to enjoy naked blondes in Heaven (Jannat ki Hoor).
The only way to rule out this problem is to infiltrate madarsas with modern education. Have the teachings be hotly debated and interpreted, ensure those who question the meaning of Allah's will get their answers.
Till the time this happenswe will have to fight a war that will continue to expand both in length and depth
