Sometimes I wonder how do we still as a nation when we become the epitome of all that can possibly go wrong.
This time my reference is directed towards changing course of Kosi river. Well the river took its time to breach the dam. Then another two weeks to reach Ganges. All the while Indian government - with specialized agency like ISRO and Geological survey of India failed to predict the course.
Then in a knee jerk reaction to the plight of some 2 million stranded (potentially drowning civilians) 10,000 troops were commited. Its a joke and complete failure of India state. We left 2-3 million citizens on their own. Its criminal and rediculous.
Worst part is that this is just the beginning, the water will recede (hopefully in 2 weeks) we will start counting bodies - most likely 5 to 10 thousand. And then the real nightmare will begin - 2 million people retrurning to washed away properties, to no jobs, no belongings... suddenly we will have people killing each other for a bread loaf and any sort of administration will cease to exist. On top of this water borne diseases will take their sweet toll on another tens of thousands.
We were not ready when Kosi broke its barriers and we will not be ready when ancient lands of Nalanda will cry harder.
