All because these hapless workers (mostly lowly paid drivers and conductors) of UP Road Transport corporation objected to the selling of this mammoth organisation (Just the strength is 40,000 strong) for peanuts. (Its reported that all national routes leading to Delhi have been sold at Rs 120 Crore only).
Today some 25,000 employees of UPSRTC objected and protested against this decision which was to rob this state of a life saving machine. They were crushed with mounted police, water cannons and live bullets. Many had to jump in river Gomti to find safety from the autocratic police. Their tale almost comparable to Gen Dyre's action in Jalianwala, Lahore.
Now here are some facts, in the ill developed Uttar Pradesh where there is no connectivity amongst most of its towns and villages but for UPSRTC and extortionist illegal vehicles. Now the Delhi routes are the most profitable and the give the resource crunched organisation muscle to operate these vital but loss making service.
Its a matter of fact that even the annual income of UPSRTC of these routes is more than 120 Crore then obviously the money has exchanged hands. Moreover the administration's concern to crush the objections goes all the way to state how much of the money has exchanged hands. It may be the beginning of sale of another commodity called Uttar Pradesh
