The war of worlds

The Turkish forces attacked Kurd positions today, kurds will have to run for cover. In case Turkish armed forces havent learned their lessons, or PKK has - the war may well go in same fashion as that of Israel-Hizbullah conflict last year. From the initial reports that are emerging from the region, it seems second largest NATO force is flexing its heavy muscles. I dont see the actions doing any good against the low intesity warfare of PKK, which will soon follow. Unless Turks have already infiltrated rank and file of PKK, i dont see even a remote possibility of the operation's success.

The next thing in this war will be the way Iran will behave ( or Misbehave) in this conflict. To give a small backgrund, Kurds are an ethnic, linguistic community who are spread over 3 countries - North Western Iran, Northern Iraq and southern Turkey.

Now that the conflict has spilled to two of the three nations, involved, the entry of civilians from the third is just a matter of time.

This is one matter that unites all the three governments - that of Ankara, Tehran and baghdad. Having said that i stongly believe - an opportunist like present president of Iran, can quickly spot an opportunity to bring down US based in baghdad and Ankara by arming Kurds. (Basically repeating a Vietnam/Afghanistan game).

Since this guy hardly sees things in distant future, (like that of the conflict for independence splitting into Iranian territory) he may dream of cutting some sort of agreement with PKK.

And if this happens, i dont see any reason why ankara should stop at excluding Iran from its present campaign. Also this scene might be encouraged by battle weary republicans, for then they will go into elections with US's formost ally under attack by terror groups supported by Iran. This suddenly will justify the US presence in Iraq, Bush's comments on Iran and strong leadership of Iran.

This at present seems to me a great opportunity to help Iranian, Iraqi and Turk leaderships while thousands will die just because the people whpo are fighting on ground are fools
