For good 17 years of 25 years of my life social quality
was a great joke – played again and again.
First it was VP Singhth then Rajiv Gandhi then the list
rose so very exponentially that the entire ‘lohia vadi” lobby of political class
took their turn to humour us with the joke.
This joke changed the way a generation looked at the
republic –
Generation that passed in 1988-94 does’nt really bothers
for the nation. Why should they ?
They were cheated – denied and they never thought twice
about ‘moral corruption’ for they already knew – the hard way – ‘that nice guys
finish last’.
Then there was calm – the great Indian middle class took
stock of things – their moralistic approaches still had an outlet –
The generation that went into colleges starting 90’s can
vouch for a fact that they just knew one thing – study harder become better!
The competition grew. Just compare a JEE(IIT entrance)
question paper of 1986 to 196 to 2006 – you will understand.
The students had raised the standard.
Millions drop years , burn midnight oil, sacrifice the time
of their youth for a dream called IIT.
Then one day the Joker returns – like a batman movie – this
time his name is arjun Singh.
He comes in to kill the youthful dream. One last hope of
billions of middle class is about to die.
The worst part is that the proposed changes in IIT
reservations is not going to change anything – like IAS its going to be as much
tougher. The numbers won’t change.
What will change will be like IAS right kids who believed
in a fair world will believe in caste system. The OBC kid who might have worked
as hard as him will always be looked by ‘non reserved’ kids as – ‘chamar’ who
made it at mercy of government.
They just introduced caste system into the best – into
the ones who will one day be in a position to change destinies of us all – they
just seeded grudges that will never go away.
This time this joke is not worth a laugh.
May be the entire Indian experiment with democracy is a
failure.
This is bad.
This must be stopped or the results will be death of a
dream that empowers the might of this nation.
